Hi, I'm Gene Pasquet! I've been a software engineer for 15 years. I have worked across a number of industries, including finance, education (tutoring), transport and more!
In all this time, I've been fortunate to work professionally with a number of languages and have become proficient with a number of them. My current focus are Python and Rust, sometimes together, to double the fun!
Programming has been my passion since secondary school, and my first computer was a Casio graphic calculator, pictured right. I programmed a role playing game on it by all in Casio basic, by abusing the graphing and matrix functions, and haven't stopped programming ever since.
I have a yearning for simplicity and purity, which leads me to sometimes to do things in a more difficult manner, but that will produce longer-lasting and more robust programs. For example choosing to perform a refactor to enable a better outcome, than to create technical debt and deliver quicker.
Despite some initial reluctance, years of writing bugs has taught me the value of automated tests (that and working in a testing automation company), and I place great emphasis on testing my production code and generally having good quality practices in place where I work.
I have a number of interests and hobbies. I like old computers and games, and I collect fountain pens. I enjoy hiking and running and being outdoors with my children.
